An Austrian siege gun in Belgium, used along with German howitzers to blast the Liege forts. During the siege, Major Nameche of the Belgian Army sacrificed himself by personally igniting the powder magazine inside Fort Chaudefontaine, one of the Liege Forts, rather than see what remained of his fort fall to the Germans. Below: In northern France, Fortress Mal-Maison shows its damage from a howitzer attack.
