As added protection, several sizes of ordnance were brought over on Mayflower. On the top floor of the fort are several minions and sakers. Minions and sakers are different sizes of ordnance just like cannons are. These minions and sakers could project a ball up to 1600 or 1700 yards respectively. They were used to warn of trouble or to salute an important visitor.
